My Kindergarten Class - 2023
Acrylic Paint - Wall Mural
Creating "My Kindergarten Class" was a transformative experience that allowed me to blend my passion for art with my desire to bring people together in a meaningful way. This mural, completed in December of 2023, marked my foray into social practice art—a journey guided by the belief that art has the power to unite and inspire, regardless of one's artistic background or talent.
The concept behind "My Kindergarten Class" was simple yet profound: to recreate the joy and freedom of artistic expression we all experienced as children. I painted a vibrant base of organic shapes on a floating wall in the Corcoran School of Art and Design, setting the stage for a collaborative art experience. Inviting a group of friends, ranging from seasoned artists to complete novices, I provided them with black and white paint and encouraged them to let their creativity flow freely.
With only two rules—no penises and no cussing—the atmosphere was light-hearted and welcoming, fostering a sense of camaraderie and shared creativity. As each participant added their unique touch to the mural, I observed the psychology of artistic expression in action, noting the diverse interpretations and personal touches that emerged.
Beyond the finished artwork, "My Kindergarten Class" was a testament to the power of community and the joy of creative exploration. By providing a space for uninhibited self-expression and connection, I hope to inspire others to embrace the playful spirit of art and discover the beauty in collaboration.
